SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – The San Francisco announced on Monday that they have placed former BYU linebacker Fred Warner on the reserve/COVID-19 list.
The NFL introduced the reserve/COVID-19 list this year. It doesn’t necessarily mean that Warner tested positive for COVID-19.
The 49ers tweeted out the news on Monday morning.

Explanation Of Reserve/COVID-19 List
In July, the Minnesota Vikings posted an explainer of the new reserve/COVID-19 list.
“This new reserve list category was created for a player who either tests positive for COVID-19 or who has been quarantined after having been in close contact with an infected person or persons,” The explainer read. “If a player falls into either of these categories, their club is required to immediately place the player on the reserve/COVID-19 list. Per agreed upon NFL-NLFPA policy, clubs are not permitted to comment on player’s medical status other than referring to roster status. Clubs may not disclose whether player is in quarantine or is positive for COVID-19.”
San Francisco is scheduled to begin the 2020 season at home against the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday, September 13.
