Strong Defensive Effort In First Half
The Dons were forced to punt on their first drive of the game. After some good chunk runs by Dallin Havea, penalties by the Bulldogs forced them to punt. When Spanish Fork got the ball back, they turned the ball over on downs near midfield. The Dons had the ball when the first quarter ended with both teams being held scoreless.
On the first play of the second quarter, the Dons fumbled the ball after the receiver had the ball knocked out on a tackle. Shortly after the turnover, Welsch ran in a 34-yard touchdown to give the Bulldogs a 6-0 lead with 11:08 remaining in the first half after they missed the extra point.
After each team exchanged punts, the Dons picked up a big play after Jeffrey Hernandez ripped the ball out of the Provo receivers’ hands. It gave Spanish Fork 1:46 to try and get a touchdown before halftime but they couldn’t capitalize.
