SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Both the NBA and the WNBA have decided to postpone Thursday’s scheduled games in light of the protests from players in both leagues on Wednesday. The NBA’s Milwaukee Bucks, and multiple teams from the WNBA opted to boycott their scheduled games after the shooting death of Jacob Blake, a Black man, by a police officer in Wisconsin.

“The NBA and the National Basketball Players Association today announced that in light of the Milwaukee Bucks’ decision to not take the floor today for Game 5 against the Orlando Magic, today’s three games – Bucks vs. Magic, Houston Rockets vs. Oklahoma City Thunder and Los Angeles Lakers vs. Portland Trail Blazers – have been postponed,” The release said. “Game 5 of each series will be rescheduled.”

The Utah Jazz and the Denver Nuggets were scheduled to meet in game six at 2 pm MT Thursday before games were postponed.

WNBA Statement On Decision To Postpone Games

The WNBA also issued a statement on the league’s decision to postpone their Wednesday games. Unlike the Bucks, who opted to remain in their locker room during game time, many WNBA players took the floor for their scheduled games to display their protest.

“As the WNBA players continue discussions and election on recent events, the WNBA announced that the three games scheduled for this evening (Chicago Sky vs. Indiana Fever; Dallas Wings vs. New York Liberty; Las Vegas Aces vs. Seattle Storm) have been postponed. Information regarding rescheduling of yesterday and today’s games will be provided when available.”

Both the NBA and the WNBA are scheduled to host playoff games in the state of Florida through October, despite their decision to postpone games.
