Clarkson And Bradley Trying To Become Flamethrowers For Jazz

Jul 24, 2020, 5:56 PM | Updated: 10:52 pm

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Jordan Clarkson and Tony Bradley are working to become flamethrowers for the Utah Jazz. That is to say, Clarkson is adopting the Flamethrower comic book moniker, while Bradley works on adding the three-point shot to his offensive arsenal.

On Friday, the Jazz debuted their Sixth Man of the Year Award campaign for Clarkson using comic book animation. The custom drawing depicts Clarkson having the ability to control fire, drawing a comparison to the instant scoring he brings off the Jazz bench.

The Jazz acquired the high scoring guard from the Cleveland Cavaliers in December. Clarkson admitted he liked the drawings and what it meant to have the team’s support.

“It’s been a great experience for me,” Clarkson said of his time in Utah. “Coach [Snyder] has been great. The organization has been great as well. In terms of it meant I thought that was pretty cool.”

The guard also stated that he’s long felt a connection to the Marvel character Pyro.

“The hand-drawn stuff, they did a really good job,” Clarkson said. “That’s probably one of my favorite Marvel characters to the inventory so that’s pretty dope.”

Clarkson enters the looming offseason as an unrestricted free agent, free to sign with whichever team he chooses. Winning the league’s Sixth Man of the Year Award would help bolster his offseason value. But with plenty of season left to play, he the guard said he isn’t focused on future contract negotiations.

“In terms of like the sixth man of the year award, I mean it’s cool and everything, I definitely want to be in the talks,” Clarkson said. “But I’m concentrating on the bigger goal of winning games and trying to do something in these playoffs.”

Can Bradley Become One Of The Jazz Flamethrowers?

Several Jazz fans were surprised during the team’s first scrimmage against the Phoenix Suns to see center Tony Bradley hoist multiple three-point attempts in the game. Perhaps more surprising, the plays were drawn up to get Bradley the looks.

Though Bradley missed both attempts, the third-year big man said he’s been putting in the work to add the shot to his repertoire.

“I’ve been working on shooting the three for a long time,” Bradley said. “Really since my rookie year. I’ve been shooting it ever since [coach] Vince [Legarza] came in.”

The North Carolina product can be seen working on the corner three-point attempt after most Jazz practices during the season. Bradley is a perfect 1-1 from the three-point line this season, though the attempt came in a late shot clock situation. Now, the plays are being drawn up for him to get the looks.

“It’s definitely different,” Bradley said. “It’s something that I have to get used and keep shooting it. I’ve been taking some in practice, but transitioning it into the game is completely different. I made one earlier this year but it’s different now because I’m wide open. Just gonna have to get more reps up. But I’m confident, it feels good shooting it.”
