Jazz Unveil Comic Book Artwork For End Of Season Awards

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The Utah Jazz drafted comic book style artwork to campaign for their players end of season awards hopes. Rudy Gobert, Donovan Mitchell, and Jordan Clarkson were all featured in separate comics designed to highlight their accomplishments on the floor.

The team planned to print and distribute the work to voting media members before the end of the regular season, but the league’s suspension ended that possibility. End of season award voting is currently underway as the league prepares to return to meaningful games on July 30. Media voting ends July 28.

The digital comic book series makes the case for Gobert to repeat for the third time as NBA Defensive Player of the Year, Donovan Mitchell as an All-NBA member, and Jordan Clarkson as the Sixth Man of the Year.

Rudy Gobert – Gobzilla

Gobert was depicted as a city-destroying giant dubbed “Gobzilla – King of Defense.” Gobert is shown with claws breaking through his shoes, swatting an animated basketball, and walking through a burning city in the three frames. Each page details Gobert’s story and on the court accomplishments.

“You know Rudy Gobert. He’s the 2x defending NBA Defensive Player of the Year. He’s an NBA All-Star. He’s been on two All-NBA teams. He blocks shots.

So many shots.

It’s gotten so bad that most offensive players don’t even want to go near the basket. The thing is, though, Gobert isn’t just dominant around the rim. He’s also REALLY good at guarding in space. He allows the FEWEST points per isolation possession of ANY player in the NBA.

Here’s some trivia: BESIDES BEING NBA ALL-STARS, What do Giannis Antetokounmpo, Damian Lillard, James Harden, Russell Westbrook, Luka DonČić and Trae Young have in common?

They’ve all challenged Gobert on isolations, only to drive to the rim and have their shots rejected.

Because that’s what Gobzilla does.”

Donovan Mitchell – The ALL-NBA Spida

Mitchell’s comic book, titled “The All-NBA Spida” showed the Jazz guard swinging through an NBA court and hanging upside from Spider Man’s patented web.

“When the Jazz need him the most, Donovan Mitchell swings into action. Need proof?

Clutch scoring: No. 5 in the NBA

Fourth-quarter points: No. 10 in the NBA

Close game? Clock winding down? There’s nobody else you’d rather have than your friendly neighborhood Spida. He’s guaranteed to make the play—whether it’s hitting a clutch jumper, dishing out a key assist, or coming through with a timely defensive stop.

The Jazz are 24-11 in close games this season, thanks largely to Mitchell’s superior clutch play.

Earlier this season, he became the first guard since Dwyane Wade (back in 2005) to reach 4,500 points, 800 rebounds and 800 assists in his first 200 career games. Allen Iverson, Michael Jordan and Oscar Robertson are the only other guards to reach those benchmarks.

Elite company for this 23-year-old All-Star.”

Jordan Clarkson – Flame Thrower

Clarkson’s “Flame Thrower” comic book depicts the Jazz sixth man emerging from and controlling fire. The Jazz acquired Clarkson on December 23 in a trade with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

“Yeah, he’s great at lots of things. Threes. Dunks. Fancy layups. Floaters. Jumpers. Juking defenders out of their shorts on his way to another bucket.

You get the point—he comes in the game and LIGHTS IT UP.

Like really, truly, legitimately destroys other teams’ bench players. Leaves them feeling helpless, embarrassed, exposed.

When Clarkson’s on the court, his team is better. When the Jazz traded for him on Christmas Eve, they ranked second to last in the NBA in bench points. SECOND TO LAST!!! Since then they’re up to 19th in the league.

Huge difference.

“I’m just out there playing free,” Clarkson said. “I never think about the last shot or the last play, because I’ve got to make another one.”

That’s the mentality of THE …

FLAMETHROWER”
