SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Former BYU basketball guard TJ Haws will be continuing his basketball career overseas. According to a report from Sportando, Haws is signing a contract to play for Trefl Sopot in Poland.

Trefl Sopot pays in the Polish Basketball League in Poland. Last year, Trefl Sopot finished with a 12-10 record and in sixth place in the PBL before COVID-19 shut down the league.

Haws was a four-year standout for the BYU basketball program and was the Cougars “Iron Man” starting in 133 consecutive games. A new record in BYU basketball history.

A two-time All-WCC First Team selection, Haws posted career averages of 14.3 points, 4.5 assists, and 2.9 rebounds per game. While also shooting 44-percent from the field and 36 percent from three-point range.

BYU head coach Mark Pope said in April to KSL Sports that Haws was receiving interest from “multiple NBA teams” after his collegiate career ended.

TJ Haws made clutch plays during his BYU career

Haws’ senior season this past year was his best as he consistently made big plays to deliver wins for a BYU team that finished 24-8 and No. 18 in the final Associated Press Top 25 poll. Three games saw Haws come up with game-winning plays. At Houston, Haws hit a buzzer-beater three to take down the Cougars in red. Against WCC rival, Saint Mary’s, Haws buried a deep three with seconds remaining to lift BYU over the Gaels. It just so happened to be the night before he was set to become a father for the first time. Then against San Diego, with BYU’s NCAA Tournament hopes on the line, he lobs an alley-oop to Yoeli Childs for the win.

A former four-star recruit and National Champion out of Lone Peak High School, Haws concluded his BYU career seventh all-time in scoring with 1,899 career points. Haws also ended his career in the Top-10 ranks in 3-point field goals made, free throw percentage, assists, and steals.
