SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Utah forward Timmy Allen announced that he has pulled his name from the pool of players eligible to be selected in the 2020 NBA Draft and is running to the Runnin’ Utes for his junior season.

The Utes’ leading scorer from the 2019-20 season broke the news in a video post via the Utah men’s basketball Twitter account on Thursday, July 9.

“I’m excited to let you guys know that I’ve taken my name out of the 2020 NBA Draft and I’ll be returning to campus to go to school and play next year,” Allen said “I’m excited to get to work on my teammates and coaches again. I’m excited to rep this red. Go Utes.”

Allen’s announcement arrived less than a month from the NCAA’s deadline for college basketball players to withdraw their names from the 2020 NBA Draft and maintain collegiate eligibility.

In June, the NCAA said that players have until 10 days after the NBA Draft Combine or August 3, “whichever comes first, to withdraw from the postponed 2020 NBA draft and retain their eligibility.” The NBA Draft Combine has yet to be rescheduled for 2020.

Allen first announced his intentions to explore his options regarding the NBA Draft on April 29.

The forward had a great start to the 2019-20 season and averaged over 20 points per game during Utah’s non-conference slate of games. He helped lead Utah to a 16-15 overall record. Allen’s points average closed at 17.5 points per contest by the season’s end.

Allen was honored as a member of the All-Pac-12 second team last season.
