Jimmer Fredette Becomes Free Agent After Parting Ways With Panathinaikos

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Former BYU star Jimmer Fredette is a free agent after parting ways with Greek club Panathinaikos.

Fredette signed a two-year deal with the team last summer but his large contract became too much for the team especially when the coronavirus shut down professional basketball overseas.
“He has been informed that he is free to go,” Panathinaikos president Takis Triantopoulos told reporters about Fredette. “His agent also knows this and he is on the market for a new team.”

Fredette turned into a star in China when he played for the Sharks for three seasons. He averaged 37.3, 37.4 and 36.9 points per game respectively during his time in China.
After a successful stint in China, Fredette signed with Panathinakos in Greece where he played 19 minutes per game and averaged 13.7 points in the Greek Basketball League. In the EuroLeague, Fredette’s minutes went up to 21.3 per contest but his scoring averaged decreased to 12.9 per game.
In 2017, Fredette dropped 73 points as the Sharks lost in double overtime.
After being taken 10th overall in the 2011 NBA Draft, Fredette played six seasons in the league with five different teams. He also had stints in the NBA’s G League.
