SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Nathan Lyday, the Ogden City Police Officer who was killed in the line of duty on May 28, 2020, after responding to a domestic violence call, grew up a beloved Utah Jazz fan – as depicted by a photo posted by Brett Hein of The Standard-Examiner.
In the photo, a young Lyday is standing next to former Jazz forward Carlos Boozer in 2006.

Lyday would have been 10 years old at the time, while Boozer was in the midst of his third year with the organization.
During the 2006-07 season, Boozer helped the Jazz win their first 11 of 12 games. He was later named to the All-Star roster as a reserve, but was unable to participate in the All-Star festivities as he was recovering from a hairline fracture in his left fibula.
Nathan Lyday Vigil, Viewing & Funeral Services
A candlelight vigil will be held on Thursday, June 4, to honor Lyday. Family members, friends and the public are welcome to join, those interested will drive to certain areas that were close and meaningful to Lyday where they will light candles in his name.
On Friday, June 5, a viewing is scheduled, also open to the public, at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary located at 3408 Washington Boulevard, Ogden. The viewing is from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
The funeral will take place on Saturday, June 6, where he will be honored and remembered at Lindquist Field in downtown Ogden, home to the Ogden Raptors baseball team. A United States Honor Flag will accompany Lyday and his loved ones during the ceremony. The flag will be flown in from Orlando, Florida where it will be greeted with a police escort to the mortuary in which Lyday is located. He is currently under 24 hour Honor Guard watch.
