MLS Issues Statement Regarding Death Of George Floyd, Nationwide Protests

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – MLS Commissioner Don Garber, in accordance with Major League Soccer, has released a statement following the protest surrounding the death of George Floyd.

“We stand united with the black community throughout our country and share in the pain, anger and frustration,” the statement reads.
Furthermore, the statement concludes with “we are committed to use our voices and the platform of our league, our clubs and our players to continue to champion equality and social justice.”
The statement comes following a historic weekend that involved protests across the country.
Orlando Tournament To Resume 2020 Season?
Major League Soccer and the MLS Players Association are currently in negotiation regarding a potential tournament to restart the 2019 MLS Season. Very few details are known regarding the tournament, such as, will regular-season points be on the line? Will there be CONCACAF qualification available for the winner(s)? What will occur following the conclusion of the tournament?
According to a report, the league has given the players association until noon on Tuesday (June 2) to accept their final offer regarding the Orlando based tournament. If the Players Association can not come to an agreement with the league, the players will be on lockdown.
I’m hearing @MLS has given @MLSPA till Tuesday noon to accept their final proposal. If they refuse the players would be locked out.
I reached out to a high ranking official within the league who respectfully declined to comment.
