SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Every year transfer rumors circulate the Salt Lake Valley regarding Utah wide-receiver, Britain Covey. For whatever reason, BYU fans seem adamant that one day, the prized product of Timpview High School, will return home and play ball at their beloved Brigham Young University. Where do these rumors start?

BYU Transfer Rumors

On a recent interview on the KSL Sports Instagram Page, Tom Hackett asked Covey his thoughts on where he thinks these rumors begin.

“Honestly, I do not know,” Covey said. “One time, when I was on my mission, my brother told me that one of his friends came up to him and said “dude I just heard that your brother transferred (to BYU),” my brother responded “what? No, he didn’t…”In which his brother’s friend replied, “I am pretty sure he did.”

Covey’s brother would ultimately tell his friend that he is pretty sure he would know if his brother transferred…

Furthermore, Covey would go on to suggest that Cougarboard is responsible for the annual transfer rumors. For those that are unaware, Cougarboard is a website that boasts the gnarliest BYU fans on planet earth. These rare breeds claim to have sources that do not exist, hence why Covey is still playing football at the University of Utah.

“I think it starts on Cougarboard, I am not sure? I am secretly kind of entertained by it, I do not know that I like it, but it is quite entertaining.”

Blood Disease

Interestingly, Covey’s upbringing was not what you may have expected it to be. For years, Covey envisioned his future playing sport to be on the golf course. This was due to a rare blood disease that he was diagnosed with during his childhood. It was a scary time for Covey, who had grown up loving the game of football.

When I was in middle school, I got diagnosed with a blood disease that was a clotting type of blood disease. For example, say that I was to get a cut, my blood would not clot well and so I would just bleed out. That is dangerous because if I were to get a concussion or had some internal bleeding it would be really dangerous, so they told me I could not play football or basketball…I then got re-tested when I was a freshman in high school and I didn’t have it, that is when I started playing football.”
