PROVO, Utah – BYU basketball continues to be one of the big players in the transfer market this off-season. The Cougars landed the top grad transfer in Purdue’s Matt Haarms two weeks ago and now they are in the final three for Haarms’ old high school teammate, Jonah Antonio.

Antonio a graduate transfer from UNLV announced on his personal social media Thursday that BYU is included in his top three schools that he’s considering.

Along with BYU, DePaul from the Big East, and Rhode Island from the Atlantic 10 Conference round out Antonio’s top three. Wherever Antonio commits, he will be eligible to play immediately for the 2020-21 season.

Antonio entered the transfer portal back on March 11th after playing one season at UNLV. In his one season with the Runnin’ Rebels, Antonio appeared in 25 games, starting in 13. Antonio started in the first five games of the season for UNLV before breaking his hand. He missed the Rebels game against BYU at the Vivint Smarthome Arena on December 7th.

Both Antonio and BYU center Matt Haarms prepped at Sunrise Christian Academy. After prep ball, Antonio has had a well-traveled collegiate career going from Mount St. Mary’s to South Plains Junior College then to UNLV, and now to either BYU, DePaul, or Rhode Island.

BYU was one of the first programs to contact Antonio back in March and has been pursuing him for the past two months. Known for his three-point shooting, Antonio had six games at UNLV where he knocked down four or more shots from three-point range.

Originally from Australia, Antonio dabbled with playing Australian Football before ultimately deciding on basketball and moving to the United States.
