SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Utah State quarterback Jordan Love heard his name called by the Green Bay Packers with the 26th pick of the NFL draft. Though many draft experts criticized the Packers for selecting a quarterback with future Hall of Famer Aaron Rodgers already in tow, fellow athletes including Utah Jazz guard Donovan Mitchell, Oakland Raiders quarterback Derek Carr, and former Dallas Cowboy Dez Bryant extended their congratulations to the Aggies star.

Love was considered a borderline first-round draft pick entering Thursday night with many believing the junior from Utah State would need time to develop in the NFL before being thrown into the starting line. Just as Rogers did with Brett Favre, Love should have ample time to marinate behind Rodger until his number is called.

The quarterback’s former coach Matt Wells, who left Utah State for Texas Tech before the star’s junior season congratulated Love on twitter.

“That’s pretty cool…back to back 1st rounders!!” Wells said of his former players at Utah State and Texas Tech getting drafted with consecutive picks, “Happy for [Jordan love] & [Jordyn Brooks]”

The quarterback also received attention from Utah Jazz All-Star Donovan Mitchell.

The Jazz guard traveled to see Love play at Utah State in 2018 and congratulated the newest Packer on realizing his dream of becoming a first-round draft pick.

“Yessir congrats [Jordan Love] 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾” Mitchell tweeted.

Fellow NFL quarterback and Bakersfield native Derek Carr also took to Twitter to congratulate Love.

Carr was selected with the 36th pick in the second round of the 2014 NFL draft out of fellow Mountain West Conference school Fresno State. The Raiders were one of the teams that were widely speculated to be looking at Love as Raiders head coach Jon Gruden has been rumored to be looking to replace Carr.

“[Jordan Love] congrats bro!!! #Bakersfield” Carr tweeted.

Love grew up in Bakersfield and played high school football at Liberty High School in the city. Love received only one division-1 scholarship out of Liberty and committed to play at Utah State.

Even before the draft, Love had his share of famous supporters.

Former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Tweeted just hours before the draft about his belief in the Aggies star.

“I’m excited to see where Jordan Love Go….” Bryant tweeted, “Wherever he lands build around him and you got something special.”

Though Love now faces a tough reality of having to wait his turn behind Rodgers while fellow first-rounders will likely see the field their first year, the quarterback was understandably excited about his future.

The former Aggie wasted no time getting in on the endorsement opportunities available to the newest pros.

“#GoPackGo.” Love said in a tweeter sponsored by Panini Trading Cards, “Can’t wait to get my Packers jersey on and get to work!”
