SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Salt Lake City native, and current PGA Tour card holder, Tony Finau finishes the first day of The Players in a tie for 124 after scoring three over par.

Finau’s front nine started in horrible fashion after he bogeyed the first two holes. He would add his final bogey on hole five. Finau hit the turn at plus three.

Finau was able to steady the ship on the back nine, posting nine consecutive par’s to carry him into the clubhouse at plus three.

Other notables that find themselves three over par following the first day are Francesco Molinari, Rickie Fowler, Justin Rose, Jordan Spieth and Phil Mickelson. Hideki Matsuyama leads the field with a first-round score of nine-under-par. Harris English, Christiaan Bezuidenhout and Kim Si-woo are all tied in second place at seven-under-par.

Finau, who missed and left a number of putts our there on day one, will be paired with Andrew Putnam and Zach Johnson for round two. The trio will tee it off at 7:08 a.m.

PGA Tour Reacts To Coronavirus

On a day that saw multiple sporting organizations cancel, suspend and postpone events, the PGA announced that all Tours will proceed as scheduled, but without fans through the Valero Texas Open, which is scheduled to commence on April 2nd. The Masters is the following week.

“This is a difficult situation, one with consequences that impact our players, fans and the communities in which we play. As I said earlier this week, we’ve had a team in place that has been carefully monitoring and assessing the situation and its implications for several weeks. We’ve weighed all the options, and I appreciate the input and collaboration across the TOUR, our industry, our partners and our members that got us to this point. We’ll continue with that collaboration, and I want to thank our fans for supporting the PGA TOUR,” Commissioner Jay Monahan said in a press conference on Thursday.
