DENVER, Colo. – According to insider Mike Klis from 9 News in Colorado, the Denver Broncos will not re-sign former Utah Utes running back Devontae Booker.

Booker just finished up his rookie contract with the Broncos and will now become a free agent. Klis believes that Booker will draw interest from other teams in the second wave of free agency.

After a successful career at the University of Utah, Booker was taken by the Broncos in the fourth round, 136th overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft.

Booker was the starting running back as a rookie for six games and racked up 612 yards and 4 touchdowns on the ground. The former Ute was moved to a backup role in his second season with the Broncos in 2017 and was limited to 79 carries for 299 yards and one touchdown in 13 games played. In 2018, he played appeared in all 16 games but his carries went down to 34 for 183 yards and one score.

Last season, Booker was the third-string running back for the Broncos and ran the ball twice for nine yards. Booker finished his tenure with Denver with 289 carries for 1,103 yards and six touchdowns.

NFL teams can officially reach out to free agents beginning on March 16 before players can sign on the 18th.
