INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Former Utah Utes nickelback Javelin Guidry ran the fastest time in the 40-yard dash among the defensive backs at the NFL Scouting Combine. It was also the second fastest time in the entire NFL Combine.

Guidry ran a 4.30 40-yard dash on both of his attempts. His official time is 4.29. The NFL record for the fastest 40 was Washington Huskies wide receiver John Ross ran a 4.22 in 2017. He is now playing for the Cincinnati Bengals. Only Alabama wide receiver Henry Ruggs ran a faster time at 4.27 in 2020.

The next fastest time among the defensive backs was Florida’s C.J. Henderson with a 4.39 time.

Also, the time that Guidry recorded at the Combine put him in the 98th percentile for his position and is just the seventh cornerback in Combine history to run a sub-4.3 40-yard dash.

The former Ute was one of the fastest players in college football and was also a track star. He won the 60 meters at the UW invitational in January. The Murrieta, California native decided to forgo his senior season at Utah and enter the NFL Draft. He was a two-time Pac-12 honorable mention.

Another impressive stat that the NFL came up with was that Guidry is among 14 players to run a sub 4.30 in the 40-yard dash at the Combine since 2003, Guidry’s 21 reps on the bench press is the most.

The NFL hands out prospect grades to each participant in the Combine that is based off of everything they do. The grading scale is from 5.0 to 8.0. An 8.0 grade is considered a perfect prospect. Guidry received a 5.46 grade which is below “chance to make end of roster or practice squad” and is above “priority free agent.”

At the NFL Combine, they measure height, weight, arms, hands, etc. Here is Guidry’s measurements from the Combine.

  • Height: 5-9
  • Weight: 191 lbs.
  • Arms: 31 1/4″
  • Hands: 9″

Bench Press

Guidry was impressive on the bench press by putting up 21 reps of 225 lbs. That result was tied for third most among defensive backs at the combine. Only Arkansas’ Kamren Curl (24), Auburn’s Daniel Thomas (24), Reggie Robinson II from Tulsa (22) and Kindle Vidor from Georgia Southern (22) had more reps than Guidry.

The former Ute posted more reps than A.J. Terrell from Clemson (15), Cal’s Ashtyn Davis (14) and Ohio State’s Jeff Okudah (11).
