JUCO Forward Gideon George Commits To BYU Basketball

PROVO, Utah – BYU basketball adds an athletic junior college wing in Gideon George who will be part of the Cougars 2020 recruiting class. The commitment by George was announced via social media by JUCO Advocate.
“This young man’s story is incredible and the next chapter is about to begin! From Nigeria to Utah,” said the JUCO Advocate Twitter account.
A 6’6″ forward out of New Mexico Junior College, George originally hails from Nigeria and has lived in the United States for the past two years. When he begins his BYU career, George will have three years to play two with the Cougars.

George took an official visit to BYU this past weekend and witnessed the Cougars big win over nationally-ranked Gonzaga in the Marriott Center.
One of the top targets in BYU’s 2020 recruiting efforts, George has been recruited heavily by BYU assistant coach Chris Burgess throughout his recruitment.
This year at New Mexico JC, George is currently averaging 14.3 points and eight rebounds per game and is shooting 50 percent from the field. Along with BYU, George holds offers from Weber State, Jacksonville State, Portland State, Kent State, and Cal State Bakersfield.
George is expected to sign with BYU during the regular signing period that begins on April 15th and runs through May 20th.
BYU Basketball 2020 Recruiting Class
George is the third commitment in BYU’s 2020 recruiting class. The other two commitments signed with the Cougars during the early signing period last November in Spencer Johnson from Salt Lake Community College and Richie Saunders out of Wasatch Academy.
