PROVO, Utah – BYU football has another Romney brother set to play for the Cougars. Three-star linebacker in the class of 2020 Tate Romney announced on social media Tuesday that he has committed to BYU.

Romney, the younger brother to BYU quarterback Baylor Romney and wide receiver Gunner Romney, held offers from numerous 10 schools and had interest from many others around the Power 5 conferences.

A Arizona All-State 1st Team selection by MaxPreps in 2019, Romney had offers from Arizona, California, Colorado, Kansas State, Memphis, Utah, Vanderbilt, Washington State, and Yale. Other programs such as Oregon and Texas showed interest in the tackling machine.

In his three years at Chandler High School in Arizona, Romney racked up 272 total tackles, 15 sacks, and 34 tackles for loss.

Blair Angulo from 247Sports.com says Angulo is a “sure tackler with good closing speed.” Romney was one of the top targets in BYU’s 2020 recruiting class and has held an offer from BYU for more than two years.

Romney will graduate from Chandler this Summer and then serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which might hinder the opportunity for the youngest Romney to play with his older brothers at BYU. Baylor is a redshirt sophomore who received a scholarship this past January and Gunner is a junior who looks to step into a big role in BYU’s 2020 offense.

“Extremely proud of my younger brother Tate,” said Gunner Romney on his personal Instagram. “BYU got a phenomenal football player and an even better person.”

With Romney now committed, BYU has 28 commitments in the class of 2020 with the traditional National Signing Period beginning tomorrow.
