Oluyitan Helps Southern Utah Sneak Past Idaho State

CEDAR CITY, Utah – The Southern Utah Thunderbirds picked up a much needed bounce back win after taking down Idaho State 80-75 in Cedar City, Utah.
They lost to Weber State at home on Thursday night.
The T-Birds had a great first half after outscoring the Bengals 42-31, but Idaho State returned the favor by scoring 44 points in the second half and limiting SUU to 38 points, coming up short of the comeback.
Southern Utah was led by Cameron Oluyitan with 23 points, including 4-7 from beyond the arc. Harrison Butler added 13 points and 11 rebounds off the bench. Maizen Fausett chipped in 10 points and 7 boards.

“We knew we had to get this one after letting the one on Thursday slip,” Oluyitan said. “Like we always talk about, we just need to string these along. We know we’re going to come out hard the game after we lose, so we’ve just got to keep this streak going.”
Malik Porter had 21 points to lead Idaho State on a perfect 8-8 shooting from the field. Tarik Cool recorded 14 points.
The Thunderbirds shot 50 percent from the floor, along with 5-12 for 41 percent from the three point line and 17-19 from the free throw line.
Idaho State made 45 percent of their field goals, 30 percent from downtown and 14-21 from the foul line.
Other than the shooting percentages, both teams were very close in other statistical categories.
Southern Utah improved their record to 13-8 overall and 6-4 in Big Sky Conference play. They will host Northern Colorado on Thursday, February 6 at 7 p.m. The game will be broadcast on Pluto TV.
