PROVO, Utah – BYU and Stanford announced a four-game extension of their football series, extending the upcoming series to eight games.

Stanford will host the Cougars in the regular-season finale in Palo Alto, California on November 28, 2020. It will be the first of four previously announced matchups. The extension adds two away trips to Stanford in 2026, 2028 and home contests in 2031, 2028.

Much like the game scheduled for 2020, the two programs will meet on Thanksgiving weekends for the games announced in 2022, 2026 and 2028.

Currently, the Cougs and Cardinal are scheduled to meet on eight occasions over the following 15 years.

Stanford currently leads the all-time series 2-0 after beating the Cougars 18-14 in Provo in 2003 and 37-10 at Stanford in 2004.

Return Missionaries & David Shaw

Like two peas in a pod. David Shaw has, for years, been open about his recruitment of return missionaries.

“I have to thank Lance Anderson, our defensive coordinator. Lance is LDS and really understood how to navigate guys who go on Mormon missions and how that folds into college football,” Shaw said at Pac-12 media day. “A lot of us at Stanford have never really been part of that. I had a couple of friends when I played at Stanford that were from Utah and teach us how this thing goes.”

While Shaw seems to be more than content with recruiting return missionaries, many coaches around the country are not. A risk is certainly at play when recruiting LDS kids. 18-year-olds, that leave reality for two years often return with a different physical build. Although, more often than not, they return wiser, smarter and more engaged with how life works.
