Gobert, Mitchell Dominate Early, Help Jazz Sweep Season Series Over Warriors

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – The Utah Jazz blitzed the Golden State Warriors to start the game and coasted to an easy victory behind great performances by Rudy Gobert and Donovan Mitchell.

With the win, the Jazz swept the season series over the Warriors for the first time in 10 years.

Utah soundly defeated Golden State 129-96 for its largest margin of victory this season on Wednesday, January 22.

Gobert and Mitchell played made quick work of the Warriors for the fourth time this season and combined for 45 points in 52 combined minutes of play.

The Jazz opened the game with a 31-17 lead at the end of the first quarter. Utah’s offense continued to roll in the second quarter and the Jazz led the Warriors by 22 points at halftime.

Gobert and Mitchell combined for 30 points at the break to give Utah a 65-43 lead at the break.

The Jazz continued to dominate after coming out of the locker and outscored the Warriors by nine points in the third quarter.

By then, the game was already decided. Utah went to the final minutes of play with a 100-69 advantage.

Gobert finished the game with 22 points, 15 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal, and 3 blocks. He finished the game shooting 10-13 on field goals. Gobert recorded a team-high +31 plus-minus rating. He posted his 33rd double-double of the season.

Mitchell led Utah in scoring with 23 points on 8-13 shooting. He shot 4-8 on three-pointers while adding 4 rebounds, 3 assists, and 1 steal. Mitchell finished the game with a plus-minus rating of +24.

Jazz forward Bojan Bogdanovic poured in 18 points including four makes from behind the arc.

Utah shot 53.8 percent from the field and 42.5 percent on triples against the Warriors.

The Jazz’s defense was effective in limiting Golden State’s opportunities and forced them into shooting 39.8 percent on field goals and 26.1 percent from behind the arc.

Warriors guard D’Angelo Russell led Golden State with 26 points on 10-21 shooting.

Golden State moved to a record of 10-36 this season.

The Jazz improved to 31-13 on the season with the victory. Utah has won three consecutive games and 18 of its last 20 games.

Utah currently sits alone in second place in the Western Conference standings and are four games back in the loss column from the first place Los Angeles Lakers.

The Jazz have a couple of days off before hosting the Dallas Mavericks. Utah and Dallas have yet to play this season. The Mavs and Jazz tip-off on Saturday, January 25 at 3 p.m. (MDT).
