KANSAS CITY, Mo. – During his weekly podcast, Chiefs reporter BJ Kissel said that in the future people will tell their grandkids about the performance former BYU and current Kansas City defensive back Daniel Sorensen had in the team’s comeback win over the Houston Texans.

Sorensen and the Chiefs came back from behind down 24-0 to defeat the Texans 51-31 in the AFC Divisional Round of the NFL playoffs on Sunday, January 12.

“Two, three generations from now you’re gonna be telling your grandkids about the plays that Daniel Sorensen made,” said Kissel of Sorensen’s production in the playoff victory.

The former Cougar DB spurred the Kansas City comeback when he tackled Houston’s Justin Reid short of the line to gain on a fake punt run during the second quarter of the game.

“It was the biggest play in the biggest comeback in franchise history,” said Kissel of Sorensen’s game-changing play.

After the win, Sorensen humbly said that his tackle wasn’t anything special.

“That’s my responsibility,” said Sorensen. “I did my job pretty much just like anybody else would’ve done their job.”

The Chiefs safety finished the 20 point win with a team-high nine tackles and a forced fumble.

“The reason why I think it’s special is not that he just made that play but it’s that he had every reason to believe the highest of highs for his career, that’s the most impactful game Daniel Sorensen has ever played in his career,” continued Kissel.

Sorensen is in his sixth season with the Chiefs. He’s appeared in 79 games with Kansas City since joined the organization in 2014 as an undrafted free agent out of BYU.

The DB has posted career totals of 255 total tackles, 196 solo tackles, 3.5 sacks, 20 pass breakups, 7 interceptions, 2 forced fumbles, 4 fumble recoveries, and 2 touchdowns.

In 2019, Sorensen has recorded 66 total tackles, 49 solo tackles, 4 pass breakups, 2 interceptions, and 1 forced fumble which he punched out against the Texans.

“He had every right in that moment to kinda pat himself on the back to make it about him and he didn’t,” continued Kissel about Sorensen’s big playoff game. “All he said is ‘that’s my responsibility. I just went out and did my job.’ He didn’t try to go out and make it more than it was. ‘This is my job. I go out and make a play.”

Sorensen and the Chiefs host the Tennessee Titans in the AFC Championship game on Sunday, January 19. The game at Arrowhead Stadium is scheduled to kickoff at 1:05 p.m. (MDT) on CBS. The AFC champion will play either the Green Bay Packers or San Francisco 49ers in the Super Bowl.
