Niang, Jazz Close Out Magic With Hot Three-Point Shooting In Fourth Quarter

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Utah Jazz closed out the Orlando Magic in the fourth quarter behind hot three-point shooting from Georges Niang.

Niang and the Jazz defeated the Magic at the Amway Center on Saturday, January 4.

The Jazz forward made eight shots from behind the arc during the final 12 minutes of the game to lead Utah to a 109-96 win over the Magic.

Niang was responsible for five of the Jazz’s 16 made triples over the Magic. The Jazz closed the game shooting 40 percent from three-point land and 45.2 percent overall.

Utah is No. 1 in the NBA in three-point percentage.

Donovan Mitchell drilled four shots from downtown. Joe Ingles made three shots from behind the arc.

Bojan Bogdanovic, Royce O’Neale, and Jordan Clarkson each made shots from 22 feet or deeper.

Niang finished the game with a season-high 15 points on 5-8 shooting from three. He added 5 rebounds and 2 assists in 17 minutes off the bench.

Utah’s entire starting lineup posted plus-minus ratings of +6 or better.

Jazz center Rudy Gobert anchored Utah’s defense while scoring 8 points and pulling down 17 rebounds.

Mitchell led Utah’s offense with 32 points on 14-21 shooting. He shot 4-7 from behind the arc. Mitchell added 3 rebounds and dished out a team-high 6 assists.

Saturday’s win was the third time in five games that Mitchell eclipsed 30 points or more. The Jazz star has scored 30 points or more in 11 times this season.

The Jazz only turned the ball over eight times against the Magic.

Orlando was led by Terrence Ross’ 24 points. Magic center Nikola Vučević posted a double-double of 22 points and 13 boards.

The win pushed Utah to a positive record on the road this season. It was also the team’s fifth consecutive victory. The Jazz own a 23-12 record and are now 10-9 on the road.

Orlando fell to 16-20 on the season.

The Jazz close out a three-game road trip against the New Orleans Pelicans and former Jazzman Derrick Favors on Monday, January 6. Utah and New Orleans are scheduled to tip-off at 6 p.m. (MDT). The game will broadcast on NBA League Pass, AT&T SportsNet, and 97.5 FM.
