Weber State’s Historic Season Ends With Loss to James Madison

HARRISONBURG, Va. – The Weber State football team’s postseason aspirations and record-setting season came to an end with an FCS Playoff loss to James Madison in the quarterfinals.

The No. 3 seed Wildcats fell to the No. 2 Dukes on Saturday, December 21.

Weber State reached the quarterfinals for the first time in program history but its magical season came to a close as the Wildcats allowed 467 yards of total offense in a 30-14 loss to James Madison.

The Wildcats allowed the Dukes to jump out to a 17-0 lead early in the second quarter and weren’t able to recover.

Weber State got onto the scoreboard with 1:23 left in the first half on a 2-yard touchdown pass from Jake Constantine to Kevin Smith.

Unfortunately for the Wildcats, James Madison connected on a 34-yard hail mary TD pass as the second quarter clock expired to go into the break with a 17 point advantage, 24-7.

Weber State’s final score of the game came with 2:54 left to play when Constantine found Ty MacPherson for a 22-yard touchdown.

Constantine finished the game throwing 16/31 for 186 yards and the pair of scores. MacPherson led the Wildcat receivers with 5 catches for 83 yards and a TD.

The Wildcats were outgained in total yards 467-256 and in first downs 26-15.

Weber State finished the season with an 11-4 record but went 3-4 on the road.
