SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Fans of the University of Utah women’s gymnastics team will be treated to a free season preview event in advance of the upcoming 2019-2020 season.

The 17th Annual Red Rocks Preview has been scheduled for Friday, December 13 at 7 p.m., at the Jon M. Huntsman Center. The event will also be televised on the Pac-12 Networks. Gates open at 5:30 p.m.

Those in attendance can pick up a free team poster, and the first 1,000 fans will also get a schedule magnet.

A Kids Zone will be set up for pictures with Santa and Mrs. Claus. University officials said activities include a balloon artist, face painter and more.

Gymnasts will sign autographs after the event.

The Red Rocks are coming off an 8-2 season last year, coming in second in the Pac-12 and making it to the semifinal of the NCAA tournament.

They begin the year as the preseason Number 5 team.

The Utes will also be without longtime coach Megan Marsden, who retired at the end of the season. Head coach Tom Farden takes the reigns on his own after four years as Marsden’s co-head coach. Farden was also a Ute assistant under Marsden for five years.

Friday’s fan event was scheduled for one week before the team opens the season at home against No. 12 Kentucky.

Both Kentucky and Utah finished the 2018-2019 season in the Top 10, with Utes ranked number 6, and the Wildcats ranked number 9.

The Utes face several other squads during season also ranked in the Top 35 of the Women’s Collegiate Gymnastics Association (WCGA) Preseason Poll, including No. 23 BYU, No. 26 Southern Utah, No. 21 Arizona State, No. 31 Arizona, No. 9 California, No. 11 Oregon State, No. 4 UCLA, No. 17 Washington, and No. 22 Stanford.
