PORTLAND, Ore. – Former Jazz and current Portland Trail Blazers forward Rodney Hood suffered a torn left Achilles tendon in the Blazers’ game against the Los Angeles Lakers.

Hood’s injury occurred with 3:27 left in the first quarter of the game between the Blazers and Lakers on Friday, December 6.

The former Jazzman went up for rebound before falling to the court and grabbing his lower leg. The Trail Blazers stated that Hood had an MRI on Friday evening that confirmed the injury.

Hood started the game for the Blazers and went scoreless in nine minutes on the floor. He posted 2 rebounds, 1 assist, and a steal before going out of the game.

Prior to the game, Hood said that he was experiencing discomfort with his Achilles but it wouldn’t prevent him from playing against the Lakers. Less than two hours later, the former Jazzman went down with the horrific injury.

The typical recovery timeline for NBA players with Achilles injuries has them missing the majority or entirety of the league’s season.

Portland is 23 games into an 82 game regular season schedule.

Many fellow NBA players reached out on social media to wish Hood well in his recovery including Jazzmen Donovan Mitchell and Rudy Gobert.

In 20 games this season, Hood was averaging 11.5 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 1.9 assists in 30.5 minutes per game.

Hood is 27 years old. He was drafted by the Utah Jazz with the 23rd overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft. He played from the Jazz until 2018 when he was traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers.
