BYU Handles Montana Tech In Final Game Without Yoeli Childs

PROVO, Utah – The BYU basketball team had complete control in their 98-63 win over Montana Tech at the Marriott Center on Saturday afternoon.

It was BYU’s first game back after finishing third in the Maui Invitational with two wins over UCLA and Virgina Tech, while losing their only game to No. 4 Kansas.

The game against Montana Tech marked the end of nine-game suspension for BYU’s star forward Yoeli Childs.

Four players scored in double figures, led by Jake Toolson with 17 points on 7-10 shooting from the field and 3-5 from the three-point line. T.J. Haws chipped in 15 points and 6 assists, while missing one shot, making 5-6 from the field and a perfect 4-4 from beyond the arc. Zac Seljaas contributed 14 points and 6 rebounds, going 5-6 from the field.

The Cougars created separation with 7:08 left in the first half when they were holding a 10 point lead, BYU went on a 24-3 run to put their lead up to 45-24 with 3:26 left in the opening half. BYU took a 51-35 advantage into the break, shooting 17-23 from the field, 5-9 from downtown and 12-14 from the free throw line.

In the second half, BYU outscored Montana Tech 47-28 and ended the game on a 14-2 run.

As a team, the Cougars shot the ball very well, making 68 percent of their field goal attempts (35-51), 52 percent from the perimeter (12-23) and 76 percent from the charity stripe (16-21).

BYU improved their record to 6-3 this season and will be on the road on Wednesday night to face the Utah Utes at the Jon M. Huntsman Center. Tip-off is at 6 p.m. and will be broadcast on the Pac-12 Network and on KSL Newsradio.
