Steve Young Visits BYU Women’s Soccer In Advance Of Elite Eight Match

BYU Women’s Soccer is looking to advance to its first College Cup in program history when they take on Stanford today in the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament.
Head Coach Jennifer Rockwood’s team has been unstoppable this season, as they are the only team with an undefeated record (21-0-1). Now they will take on their toughest test to date against the No. 1 Cardinal.
BYU spent Thanksgiving in the Bay Area and during the holiday, the Cougars spent time with a BYU and Bay Area legend in Steve Young.

BYU Sr. Associate Athletic Director Liz Darger tweeted out the meeting was an “inspirational” one.
During his playing days, Young led BYU to an 11-1 record in 1983 and a No. 7 ranking. In the NFL, Young was named Super Bowl MVP in the 49ers win over the San Diego Chargers in Super Bowl XXIX.
There’s probably no one better to draw “inspiration” on winning than a guy like Steve Young.
No. 4 BYU vs. No. 1 Stanford Sold Out
Tonight’s game between No. 4 BYU and No. 1 Stanford at Cagan Stadium is sold out. The 2,952-seat stadium has been sold out for days in advance of the biggest women’s soccer match out west this season.

Both teams feature some of the top goal scorers in this year’s tournament. BYU’s Cameron Tucker leads the Cougars with four goals in three tournament matches, while Stanford has the tournament’s top scorer in Catarina Macario who has scored seven goals in the postseason.
The last time BYU defeated Stanford on the pitch was at 5-0 victory back in 2000. BYU has lost its last four matches against the Cardinal, including a 0-2 defeat last year at South Field.
