SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Corner Canyon’s Van Fillinger is an All-American, accepting an invitation to play in the All-American Bowl in San Antonio on January 4, 2020.
The announcement was made at an assembly at Corner Canyon High School, where Van was honored by his coach, Eric Kjar, along with fellow students.
“What he [Van] did control was how hard he worked, his dedication and the way he practiced,” said Kjar. “He’s a special player and deserving of this honor.”

Fillinger is a 3-year starter for the Chargers, and a back-to-back state champion. Corner Canyon beat American Fork 49-14 to claim the 6A state title on November 23.
“I owe a lot to my team and to my family,” Fillinger said.
Team-First Mentality
Fillinger was quick to mention his teammates and give them credit for his individual success.
“I’ve been with my defense ever since I was little,” Fillinger said. “We always had this standard of working really hard. I owe it to them because I have a strong work ethic of my own, but it wouldn’t be nearly as high without my peers.”
No Lack Of Confidence
Fillinger will compete in a game that has featured some of the best players in both the college and NFL ranks. Names such as Tua Tagovailoa, Haloti Ngata and Christian McCaffrey have played in the All-American Bowl in previous years.
Fillinger says he’s proud to play in a game with such a prestigious history, but also knows he belongs in the same class as the guys he’ll be competing against.
“I got goals for myself and the sky is the limit,” Fillinger commented with a smile. “I feel like I can compete with anyone, and I’m not going to be afraid to go against anyone, I can promise you that.”
The All-American Bowl will be televised live on KSL TV on January 4 at 12:00 p.m.
