PROVO, Utah – BYU head football coach Kalani Sitake has received a three-year contract extension that will keep him in place as Cougar’s head man through the 2023 season.

“We are pleased to announce a contract extension for Kalani,” said Holmoe. We believe in him and the direction of the program. Together we are committed to creating a bright future for BYU football.”

BYU Athletic Director Tom Holmoe announced the extension to players and coaches in the locker room after the Cougars victory over Idaho State this past Saturday.

Through 49 games, Kalani Sitake has posted a record of 26-23 as head coach of the Cougars. 2019 is Sitake’s fourth season as head coach.

This past Saturday, BYU clinched bowl eligibility for the third time in the Sitake tenure.

During the off-season, there was a lot of speculation and conversation surrounding Sitake’s job status as no contract extension was given to Sitake. Then the Cougars started 2-4 to begin the 2019 season. Since BYU has reeled off four consecutive victories to put BYU back in the postseason.

“I truly appreciate the continued support that Tom Holmoe, President Worthen and the BYU administration have for our program,” said Kalani Sitake. “I love our players, coaches and fans and I’m excited about the future of BYU football.”

Since being named the 14th head coach to lead the BYU program in December 2015, Sitake has led the Cougars to notable wins over Wisconsin, Michigan State, Mississippi State, Tennessee, USC, Arizona and Boise State. Sitake, 26-23 overall, is just the fourth head coach of the BYU football program since 1972 when Hall of Fame coach LaVell Edwards took over the program. He is the first former player under Edwards to become BYU’s head coach.
