BYU Football Accepts Invitation To Hawaii Bowl After Reaching 6 Wins

PROVO, Utah – The BYU football program officially accepted an invitation to play in the 2019 Hawaii Bowl following their sixth win of the season.
The Cougars became bowl eligible after defeating the Idaho State Bengals 42-10 on Saturday, November 16.
Hawaii Bowl officials extended an invitation to BYU on the field following the Cougar victory.
BYU athletic director Tom Holmoe accepted the invite on behalf of Kalani Sitake and his team.

The Cougars will play in Honolulu on Christmas Eve.

Sitake’s squad will likely face a team from the Mountain West Conference or the American Athletic Conference at Aloha Stadium.
The Hawaii Warriors are a potential matchup for the Cougars as they are bowl eligible members of the MWC and play their home games at Aloha Stadium.
BYU is bowl eligible for the third time in the Sitake era and 37th time in program history.

The Cougars defeated Wyoming in the 2016 Poinsettia Bowl and beat Western Michigan in the 2018 Famous Idaho Potato Bowl.
BYU missed the postseason following a 4-9 season in 2017.
The island bowl game will be the nineteenth bowl game the Cougars will have played in since 1974.
The Hawaii Bowl is scheduled to kick off on December 24 at 6 p.m. (MDT) on ESPN.
