PROVO, Utah – BYU basketball has had a long list of twists and turns this past off-season on the personnel front. Now the Cougars might have to deal with another hit to their roster in the form of an injury.

Gonzaga transfer guard Jesse Wade is battling through a knee injury that could result in a “long-term” injury according to BYU head coach Mark Pope after being asked if Wade would be available in BYU’s season opener.

“This looks like it might be another kind of long-term deal,” said Pope. “It’s just kind of been a sporadic thing. Since last January, we haven’t been able to find an answer with this knee. Kind of seen every specialist in the world and kind of tried everything. Doctors are trying to decide between two kind of a little off the beaten path treatments to see – but I think they’re long term treatments – so that’s what we know right now. Of course, that could change at any point but that’s kind of what I expect from Jesse.”

Wade sat out last season with BYU after transferring from Gonzaga. A former Mr. Utah at Davis High School, Wade is a sophomore who has three years left of eligibility with no redshirt left to use.

In his one full season at WCC rival Gonzaga, Wade appeared in 19 games playing 5.4 minutes per game and averaging 1.4 points.

Along with Wade, BYU is currently without sophomore forward Gavin Baxter who suffered a shoulder injury that will sideline him for the entire season.

Zac Seljaas Update

According to Pope, senior guard/forward Zac Seljaas was able to participate in every fifth possession during practice on Thursday. Seljaas suffered a foot injury in August during the team’s trip to Italy, Pope noted that he and his team are praying that he will be available on Tuesday in the season opener against Cal State Fullerton.

Pope noted that Seljaas prior to going down with a foot injury was one of the best players on the team with how well he was playing in Italy.
