Utah State Struggles To Shutdown Air Force’s Offense

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Utah State Aggies struggled on defense against Air Force’s prolific running offense. The Aggies’ poor defense resulted in their first loss in conference play.
The Aggies allowed the Falcons to possess the football the majority of the game. Air Force controlled the ball 45:43 compared to USU’s 14:17. Utah State didn’t have an answer for the Falcons’ rushing attack as they ran the ball for 448 yards.
Air Force ran away with the Mountain West Conference Mountain Division victory 31-7 over the Aggies.

The Falcons had 30 first downs while the Aggies only converted seven. Air Force was so effective with their ground attack that they only threw the ball six times for 24 yards.
Air Force running back Timothy Jackson ran the ball 25 times for 148 yards and a touchdown.
Utah State was outgained 472-128 in total yards on the night. They only converted 1-9 on third down.
USU quarterback Jordan Love completed 14/23 passing for 114 yards and a TD.

A bright spot for the Aggies was their lack of turnovers. Utah State didn’t cough up the football or throw any interceptions but their inability to move the ball on offense and stop Air Force ended up being fatal in the game.
Utah State moved to 4-3 (3-1) on the season. Air Force flew to a record of 6-2 (4-1) and second place in the division.
