Utah Posts First Shutout Over Pac-12 Foe Since Joining Conference

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The Utah Utes posted a 35-0 shutout win over the Cal Bears. It’s the first time that they have shutout a conference opponent since joining the Pac-12 in 2011.

It is also the sixth Pac-12 conference game since expanding to 12 teams in 2011 that there has been a shutout in a conference game.

Utah’s victory over Cal is their fourth straight win. During the four-game winning streak, Utah has allowed 23 points, 13 to Washington State, 7 to Oregon State, 3 to Arizona State and 0 to Cal.

The Utes have shutout their last three opponents in the first half of Pac-12 games. They are the first team in the conference to do so since 1991 when Washington did so.

Cal hasn’t been shutout in a conference game since 1994 when USC beat them 61-0. Utah stopped their streak of 213 straight games of scoring in a conference game.

Before losing 35-0 Saturday, @CalFootball hadn't been shut out in a conference game since 1994 (61-0 at USC). The Bears' streak of scoring in 213 straight @pac12 games was 2nd longest in league history (Washington State 258, 1975-2008).

Utah finished the game allowing Cal to have just 83 yards of total offense, which is by far the least allowed this season.

The Bears had 60 passing and 23 rushing yards in the game.

The Utes had 36 tackles, holding Cal to just 43 plays on offense. Terrell Burgess led the team with six tackles. Utah was able to get into the backfield with seven tackles for loss, including three sacks.

Utah will face the Washington Huskies on Saturday in Seattle. The game will begin at 2 p.m. and will be broadcast on FOX.
