NWSL Bans Fan From Royals Games, Games At Rio Tinto Stadium

SANDY, Utah – The NWSL said that they have banned a fan from Utah Royals FC games, NWSL venues, and other games at Rio Tinto Stadium in a statement released by the league on Saturday, September 14.
The fan is receiving the ban due to inappropriate fan behavior they were involved in during a recent game between the Royals and Portland Thorns FC.
The NWSL issued the following statement on Saturday morning.
“After a thorough investigation, the individual who made racist comments toward one of our players at
the Utah Royals FC home game on Friday, September 6, 2019, has been identified and banned from
attending games at Rio Tinto Stadium. The ban will also extend to all NWSL games played at other
venues.NWSL will not tolerate inappropriate fan behavior. Racism has no place in our sport.” – NWSL
On Friday, September 6, a fan in attendance at #URFC vs @ThornsFC was shouting racist slurs at a Portland player. The fan has since been identified & the club has issued a lifetime ban to the offending party.

The Royals have a record of 9-4-7 on the season following a loss to the Houston Dash on Friday night.
The team’s next game will be against the Seattle Reign on Wednesday, September 18, 2019, at 8:00 p.m. (MDT).
