PROVO, Utah – Former BYU and NFL wide receiver Austin Collie has been named to the BYU Athletics Hall of Fame.

Collie, who played for BYU from 2004, 2007-2008, had one of the most accomplished careers a wide receiver has ever had in the history of the BYU football program.

Along with Collie, four other former BYU athletes were named to the BYU Hall of Fame class of 2019. The other four included Elisabeth Crandall-Holmes (gymnastics), Carlos Moreno (volleyball), Craig Poole (track and field), and Arunas Savickas (swimming).

In Collie’s three seasons at BYU, Collie racked up 3,255 receiving yards and had 30 touchdowns.

During the 2008 season, Collie led the nation in receiving yards with 1,538 yards and after that junior season, he declared for the NFL Draft.

One of the more memorable moments in Collie’s BYU career was his reception on 4th & 18 against rival Utah. That catch led to BYU scoring a game-winning touchdown on that drive.

After the victory over Utah, Collie said to members of the media, “Obviously, when you’re doing what’s right on and off the field, I think the Lord steps in and plays a part in it. Magic happens.”

Magic happened in that game and it took magic to get Collie to play for BYU. Coming out of high school from El Dorado Hills, California, Collie had his recruitment down to Stanford, Arizona State, and BYU. Collie was leaning towards attending Stanford or Arizona State, but then Austin’s older brother, Zac, told Austin to give BYU a look. The rest is history.

Collie and the rest of the 2019 BYU Athletics Hall of Fame class will be recognized on Saturday at halftime of BYU’s game against No. 24 USC.
