Weber State’s Defense Holds SDSU To Two Field Goals In Loss

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The Weber State Wildcats began the 2019 season with an impressive performance. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough in their 6-0 loss to the San Diego State Aztecs.
The night got off to a great start for the Wildcats with a sack by Jared Schiess on the second play for the Aztecs. Both teams exchanged punts until the midway point of the second quarter with San Diego State converted on a 34-yard field goal by Matt Araiza with 4:41 left in the opening half.
The second field and final field goal of the game came from 29-yards out with 10:51 remaining in the game.
Even though Weber State had a great defensive performance, so did San Diego State.
The Wildcats had 154 yards of total offense compared to the Aztecs’ 238 yards.
Tough one.

Quarterback Jake Constatine completed 21-of-31 passing for 119 yards and one interception for Weber State. Reigning Big Sky Freshman of the Year Josh Davis was held in check with eight carries for seven yards on the ground.
For SDSU, quarterback Ryan Agnew went 16-of-30 passing for 108 yards, while star running back Juwan Washington had 22 carries for just 55 yards.
The first turnover of the game was the most costly as Constatine threw a pick to Tariq Thompson late in the fourth quarter.
Weber State was able to force the Aztecs to punt and had the ball back with two minutes left to score a touchdown but turned the ball over on downs.
The Wildcats start the 2019 season with an 0-1 record and will return home to face Cal Poly on Saturday at 6 p.m.
