Longtime host of College Gameday, Lee Corso picked the Utah Utes to win the Pac-12, make the College Football Playoff as a No. 3 seed and beat the defending champions Clemson in the first playoff game and playing Alabama in the National Championship Game.
This was discussed on the Crimson Corner podcast.
The hype has been surrounding the Utes all off-season with some preseason predictions have the Utes winning the Pac-12 and playing in the Rose Bowl. One media outlet had the Utes playing in the Playoff, but not playing in the title game.
If this did happen, it would be a rematch of the 2008 Sugar Bowl when the Utes upset Alabama 31-17 to cap off their second undefeated season. It was the second BCS Bowl win for the Utes after busting the BCS in 2004 with a win over Pittsburgh in the Fiesta Bowl.
At practice on Saturday, Utah head coach Kyle Whittingham was asked about Corso’s prediction.
“Good for Lee,” Whittingham said. “It seems like most of the time when I am watching that (College Gameday) he has to choose us or the opponent, he doesn’t choose us really often. Maybe he has had a change of heart but, thanks Lee.”
The Utes open the 2019 season on Thursday against the BYU Cougars at LaVell Edwards Stadium. The game will begin at 8:15 and will be televised on ESPN and broadcast on KSL Newsradio.
