OTTAWA, Canada – Former BYU defensive back Robertson Daniel has been a playmaker for the Canadian Football League’s Calgary Stampede. This season marks Daniel’s first year in the CFL and through five games he already has three interceptions. Which puts him in a tie for second-most interceptions so far this season.
Daniel’s third interception of the season came against the Ottawa Redblacks this week and the pick had social abuzz. Not because it was an athletic play, which it was. But because of the facepaint, Daniel was wearing in the game.
The former BYU and NFL player had a full-fledged Heath Ledger Joker facepaint on during the game. See for yourself.
Hey, why so serious? Don’t you love seeing athletes showing some personality for once? Naturally, social media had their fair share of reactions to this unique face paint out on the gridiron.

Daniel played two seasons for BYU after transferring in from De Anza Junior College. After graduating from BYU in 2014, Daniel bounced around the NFL signing practice squad and futures contracts with a handful of franchises including the Oakland Raiders and Baltimore Ravens. Daniel appeared in two NFL games in 2016 and 2018 respectively.
The Stampeders are 4-2 in the CFL this season and are currently in second place in the league’s west division. The next game for Calgary is on Saturday, August 3rd against the Edmonton Eskimos. Will we see the Joker face paint again?
