PROVO, Utah – At BYU Media Day, it was the first time that South Carolina graduate transfer running back Ty’Son Williams talked to the media after enrolling at BYU and officially becoming a member of the program.

Williams joins the Cougars from South Carolina after playing two seasons with the Gamecocks. He will graduate in December and will have one year of eligibility to play for BYU in 2019.

Through his time at South Carolina, Williams played in 20 games, averaging 4.8 yards per carry. In 2018, he carried the ball 70 times for 328 yards and 4 touchdowns, while hauling in 9 receptions for 152 yards.

“I just want to come in here and be myself,” Williams said. “When you prepare the right way, good things will happen.”

Before his two seasons with SC, he played for North Carolina during his freshman season, appearing in six games, rushing the ball 19 times for 57 yards.

Prior to joining the Cougars, Williams had only heard of BYU, but never been to Utah.

“I heard of it, but I didn’t know where it was,” Williams said. “Things happen in life, but I am glad to be here.”

The stud running back will get a chance to go back east for some games with BYU’s schedule. Particularly the game in Knoxville against the Tennessee Volunteers.

“It’s going to feel good going back to the east coast but I am looking forward to all of the games right now and want to prepare for them,” Williams mentioned.

Williams was a four-star recruit out of Crestwood High School, where he ran for 1,058 yards and 14 touchdowns. He reached 1,000 yards rushing during his sophomore and junior seasons.

He was a member of the ESPN Top 300 and ranked the No. 11 running back in the nation, with scholarship offers from Wisconsin, Clemson, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Duke, Michigan, Mississippi State, North Carolina State, North Carolina, South Carolina, Notre Dame and Virginia.
