LOGAN, Utah – The Utah State men’s basketball program announced the addition of Marco Anthony, a transfer from Virginia.

Anthony will have to sit out for the 2019-20 season due to NCAA transfer rules, but will have two years of eligibility remaining beginning in the 2020-21 season.

He played 22 games last season for the Cavaliers, who won the national championship. The 6-foot-5 guard averaged 1.2 points and 0.5 rebounds per game in 5.4 minutes per game.

“We are thrilled to announce that Marco will be joining the Aggies!” Utah State head coach Craig Smith said. “Marco is a bright young man with a tremendous future ahead of him. At 6’4-6’5 and 220 pounds, he brings great size and athleticism. Marco is very skilled and brings versatility to our team. Above all, he fits our culture as a program and should thrive in Cache Valley.”

In high school, Anthony was a four-year letter winner and three-time first-team all-conference honoree at Holmes High School in San Antonio, Texas. He averaged 25.5 points, 10.2 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game as a senior.

Anthony will be critical for Utah State in the 2020-21 season with the departure of reigning Mountain West Conference Player of the Year Sam Merrill, who will graduate after this next season. Also, the unknown if big man Neemias Queta will be with the program after his sophomore season or if he will make the jump to the NBA.
