Liverpools’ Champions League Win Snaps Long Drought

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Liverpool won the UEFA Champions League on Saturday with a 2-0 win over Tottenham, ending a 2,651 day drought of not winning a trophy.

Liverpool just won the champions league. Glancing at a Twitter account called @LiverpoolTrophy – an account that counts up the days, keeping a running tally of the time that has passed since Liverpool won a trophy.

After the Champions League victory, the account reset it’s counter. Which led to a list of my top 5 “days since” accounts.

The Champions League, the biggest club tournament in the world. If you are unfamiliar with the UEFA Champions league, simply put, it is like the World Cup for soccer clubs. Imagine if there was a gold medal tournament like the Olympics but for NFL teams. The reigning champion, the Patriots would play in a tournament of other champions of leagues of other countries. Liverpool had to beat powerhouse teams like FC Bayern Munich of Germany, who won in 2013 and FC Barcelona, with one of the best players in the world, Lionel Messi, who won 3 of the previous 10.

Days Since The Last Game Of Thrones Book

The TV series finale of Game of Thrones happened two weeks ago, but if you are not familiar with the TV series or the books, George R.R. Martin (the creator of Game of Thrones) left the book series unfinished even though the HBO series is over. This fun website documents when the last book was written and when Martin said he would finish the series. It’s been 2,885 days.

Days Since The Indians Won A World Series

They were so close when they played the Chicago Cubs because the ending of two beloved movies had the potential to come true. Either the Rookie of the Year, Henry Rowengartner would get his real-world ring or the wild thing Ricky Vaughn would finally get a title.

Days Since The Lions Won A Playoff Game

According to the Detroit Free Press, it has been over 10,000 days since the Lions won a playoff game. The same Detroit Lions that traded former BYU linebacker Kyle Van Noy to the New England Patriots for a sixth round pick that ended up being Miami quarterback Brad Kaaya. Van Noy won his second Super Bowl since joining the Patriots. Former Highland Ram and Oregon Ducks defensive tackle Haloti Ngata played with the Lions as well as former BYU defensive end Ziggy Ansah.

None of those guys play for Detroit anymore. Is it coincidence that it’s been 10,009 days since the Lions won a playoff game?

This one stings for BYU fans. It has been 3,475 days since the Cougars beat the Utes in football.
