SANDY, Utah – Real Salt Lake winger Jefferson Savarino has been called to into the Venezuelan National Team for their upcoming Copa America tournament in Brazil.
Savarino debuted for Venezuela after he came on as a substitute against the USMNT on June 3, 2017. He now has seven caps next to his name.
Savarino will leave RSL after their upcoming match against the New York Red Bulls this Saturday.
Venezuela is in Group A, facing Peru on June 15, Brazil on June 18 and Bolivia on June 22.
The tournament runs from June 14 through July 7. If Savarino and Venezuela advance to the final, he would miss four MLS games and would not be available until July 13 when RSL hosts the Philadelphia Union.
Savarino’s call up is a reward for his recent form, as he has scored three goals and one assist through 12 matches this season. Savarino also won the MLS Goal Of The Week after his last-second strike against Atlanta United gave RSL the 2-1 victory.
