SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – On the latest episode of SportsBeat Afterhours, the newest member of the KSLSports.com podcast family, the hosts Zak Hicken and Hema Heimuli were joined by KSL Sports market director Nate Dowdle.
In an informal setting, Dowdle, Hicken and Heimuli discussed two major topics: soccer and HBO’s hit show Game of Thrones.
Last week, Real Salt Lake defeated the Colorado Rapids 3-2 in a wild first leg of the Rocky Mountain Cup. The game was full of memorable moments and the trio discussed which one was the most impactful.

To Heimuli and Dowdle, the biggest moment of the game came when RSL’s usual backup goalkeeper Andrew Putna made a vital save on a penalty kick attempt by the Rapids’ best player, Kei Kamara.
Hicken disagreed, calling Sam Johnson’s game winning second-half goal the most important moment of the game, sparking a lively debate.
“No knock to Sam Johnson, I love what the guy brings,” said Dowdle. “But for that one moment, give me Andrew Putna.”

Later on, the hosts deviated from sports talk to a discussion on Game of Thrones, which lately has dominated the pop culture landscape.
All three are fans of Game of Thrones which has drawn heavy criticism from its viewers and critics about the direction the show has taken in its final season.

Without spoiling anything, Dowdle, who has seen every episode and read every Game of Thrones book by George R.R. Martin, advised that the ending of the series should come as no surprise.
“If you think this has a happy ending, you haven’t been paying attention,” said Dowdle.
