BYU’s Danny Gelalich Hits Grand Slam To Take Lead Over Utes

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The rivalry baseball game at Smith’s Ballpark between the BYU Cougars and the Utah Utes was tied at 2 runs apiece when BYU outfielder Danny Gelalich changed that.

The bases were loaded in the eighth inning as Mitch McIntyre was hit by a pitch, Casey Jacobsen singled to right field and Bryan Call was hit by a pitch to load the bases.

Gelalich hit the ball deep to right field and it went over the fence for a Grand Slam to give the Cougars a 6-2 lead over the Utes.

It’s BYU’s third Grand Slam in five days. Outfielder Brock Hale hit two last week.

That homer was Gelalich’s first of the season. He is hitting a .318 batting average to go with 35 hits, 11 RBI’s and 31 runs in 37 games played this season.

Entering the Tuesday matchup against the Utes, BYU had won four of their last six games. After the Utes, they will play a three game series at Santa Clara to finish the regular season. They are 33-14 overall and 17-7 in West Coast Conference action.
