SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – One week after the Utah Jazz season has concluded, the Jazz Notes podcast gave their end of season grades.

The Jazz were eliminated from the NBA Playoffs in the first round to the hands of the Houston Rockets in five games.

Jeremiah Jensen and Cleon Wall started by grading the season for Donovan Mitchell.

“I am going to give him a B,” Jensen said. “Up until January, I would have given him an incomplete because we weren’t really sure what was going on with Donovan. We learned later that he was still nursing that foot injury that happened in the offseason. Once January 1st came around, I was really impressed with the way he played. He played at a near All-NBA level,” he added.

Wall was a little more generous with his grade for Mitchell.

“I am going to give him an A-,” Wall stated. “I would’ve given him a C early in the season, but he improved as the season went along. I do think that he could have shot better this season,” he said.

Both hosts agree that it’s good that there is room for improvement.

Other Players

Gobert had a great season, putting up great numbers defensively but also a career-year in points, rebounds and field goal percentage, while also setting the new single season record in the NBA for the most dunks.

“I am giving him an A,” Jensen said. “He was the Defensive Player of the Year last year after playing 56 games, he did the same thing this year in 80 games. The fact that he was durable attributes to his conditioning. As far as grading, I am considering preparation. I think he was ready to go this season,” he stated.

For Derrick Favors, he was a big part of the Jazz’s success and had some great games in the Playoffs.

“I am giving him a solid B+,” Wall declared. “I think he was fantastic in some games this season and to be honest with you, if Rudy Gobert wasn’t here, I don’t think many Jazz fans would have a problem having Derrick Favors as your starting center right now,” he said.
