Jake Toolson Reportedly Will Transfer Back To BYU

PROVO, Utah – Former Utah Valley star Jake Toolson has decided to transfer back to BYU in the wake of the program’s hiring of head coach Mark Pope, according to numerous reports.

Toolson began his college career at BYU in 2014, but transferred to UVU after taking a medical leave of absence in 2016. There, he re-joined Pope, who had been an assistant at BYU and had been hired as the Wolverines’ head coach during Toolson’s sophomore year with the Cougars, for the first time.

With a fresh start in Orem, Toolson starred at UVU. As one of the nation’s top shooters, he averaged 15.7 points per game for the Wolverines and was named the WAC Player of the Year in the 2018-19 season.

In February, Toolson told KSL Sports that his first stint at BYU was so tough that he nearly lost his love for basketball.

“That was some of the most difficult times of my life,” said Toolson in February on his final days as a Cougar. “It was really hard because that was the school that I always wanted to play for.”

Now, with one year left of eligibitily as a graduate transfer, Toolson will get another chance to have the success he always wanted at BYU.
