Former Bingham High, BYU Star Ready For Debut With Salt Lake Bees

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Former Bingham High baseball star Brennon Lund is back in a familiar ballpark to start the 2019 season. Lund, who also starred at BYU, will be with the Salt Lake Bees in his first stint up at the Triple-A level.
For Lund, who remembers going to games at Smith’s Ballpark back when the team was known as the Stingers, it’s “a dream come true.”
“I’m really excited to be here,” said the 24-year old outfielder. “I’m excited to get to this level of professional baseball so far too. I mean, this is new to me too. It’ll be an exciting experience.”

It’s not the first time that Lund has played pro ball in his home state however. After being drafted in the 11th round of the 2016 MLB Draft, he played rookie league ball with the Orem Owlz. He had a solid year, hitting .397 over 18 games and has been a steady riser in the Angels system since.
Of course, he’ll be vying for an major league spot in the same outfield as Mike Trout, but Lund is just happy to be in Salt Lake for now.
“You got to be better and better each day,” said Lund. “So I got to work hard here and then when I get my chance, I’ll keeping working at the same pace.”

His manager in Salt Lake, Lou Marson, coached Lund in Double-A Mobile last season and thinks the youngster has a bright future ahead of him.
“He’s progressed a lot,” said Marson, who is entering his first season as the Bees’ manager. “I saw him when he was first drafted, I got a chance to rove around a little bit and I saw him in Orem. He can really hit and run the bases well. Solid center fielder.”
“He’s just got to continue to progress and hopefully we’ll get him to the big leagues here pretty soon,” said Marson.
The Bees will begin their season the road against the Albuquerque Isotopes on Thursday. Opening night at Smith’s Ballpack is scheduled for April 9th at 6:35 p.m. against the Fresno Grizzlies.
