Provo, Utah – Sources tell KSL Sports that BYU head basketball coach Dave Rose will announce his retirement in a news conference at 1 p.m. today in the Marriott Center.

Rose, 61, has been at BYU since 1997 – serving as an assistant coach until 2005, then as head basketball coach for the last 14 seasons.

Thirteen of those 14 seasons, Rose led the Cougars to post-season play in either the NIT or NCAA tournaments.

Among his accomplishments, Rose led BYU to a Sweet 16 appearance in the 2011 NCAA Tournament, along with back-to-back 30-win seasons. His teams claimed the Mountain West conference championship four times before the school transitioned to the West Coast Conference, which helped him along to his career 348 wins.

He also coached a National Player of the Year in Jimmer Fredette, also during the 2011 season.

Rose continued to lead the team even during a bout with pancreatic cancer in 2009. He beat cancer after having a tumor removed.

BYU finished the 2018-2019 season with a 19-12 record, the first in his tenure as head coach that didn’t see the Cougars reach the 20 win plateau.

You can watch the press conference live on the KSL Sports Facebook page or on kslsports.com.
