DALLAS, Texas – Dallas Mavericks forward and future Hall-of-Famer Dirk Nowitzki passed Wilt Chamberlain for sixth place all-time on the NBA career scoring leaderboard.
Going into the Mavericks’ game against the New Orleans Pelicans on Monday, Nowitzki needed just four points to pass Chamberlain. He passed the legendary Laker just three and a half minutes into the game with a shot just inside the 3-point line, his second made basket of the game.

It is believed that his year, his 20th in the league, all with Dallas, will be Nowitzki’s last in the league. It is unlikely that he’ll pass anyone else on the all-time leader board. Ahead of him are Michael Jordan, LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, Karl Malone and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
Nowitzki was drafted by the Mavericks back in 1998. He won a title with Dallas in 2011.
